Neurofeedback

Welcome to NeuroFeedback… Training for your Brain.

“I am so tired of being awake all night. I don’t feel motivated, I am so anxious alllll of the time. I can’t focus and my memory isn’t what it used to be.”

“Sometimes I even feel so nervous I get stuck in thought, and I can’t move on.  I get angry at times, and I don’t even know why.”

“I am walking around knowing that I am not optimally functioning, and I don’t know what to do about it. Is this my new norm?”

“I don’t even know what it feels like anymore to feel balanced and in control.”

“I know as we age we start to get more forgetful and off-balance… I wish there were something that could help me with these concerns.”

Something More Than Traditional Psychotherapy and Medication

You have tried one thing after another to try and feel better.

Therapy, meds, you name it. Therapy helped to some extent, but you feel like you need more. Like something is still missing. “Maybe this is the best life is going to be?”

What if there was a holistic approach that addresses the symptoms you are experiencing? What if you can get rid of your anxiety, be in a better mood, get more sleep, improve your focus and attention, as well as improve your memory?

Neurofeedback can help you at any age! Neurofeedback is for the mind what exercise is for the body. It helps to improve many areas that would otherwise disrupt a person’s quality of life.

How does Neurofeedback work?

Our brains communicate using electrical impulses called brainwaves. Your brain waves may be running too slow or too fast. Perhaps your brain can’t shift well from rest to task.

Using sensors placed on your scalp, we are able to monitor these brainwaves. We complete a brain map of your brainwaves during the initial assessment and base all neurofeedback training specifically on what your brain demonstrates it needs, as well as what you report in an extensive questionnaire.

During your brain training sessions, your brain learns by receiving feedback. There are different ways to receive this feedback. It can involve playing a game, listening to music, or watching a movie. When the feedback (game, music, or movie) pauses or stops, this tells your brain that something is out of balance and causes it to “figure out” how to return to an uninterrupted movie, music, or game. When your brainwaves are functioning within an optimal range, the feedback operates smoothly.

Over the course of a Neurofeedback training program, your brain learns from this feedback. This can strengthen existing neuropathways and create new ones, alleviating your symptoms, and helping you feel more balanced and in control of your life.

What should you expect?

We will do a brain map assessment measuring the electrical impulses of your brain in real-time called a quantitative EEG (qEEG). This assessment allows us to see how well the different areas of your brain are coordinating their activity or communicating with one another. We will also do together an extensive questionnaire so we can learn all about you and your symptoms.

Then we will begin our Whole Brain Training Sessions. Training sessions last about 45-60 minutes. It is recommended you train 2-3 times per week for best results.

We train your whole brain through a series of training sessions. Like circuit training in a gym for your body, we train the entire brain for a more balanced approach. You will notice significant improvement after about 15 sessions, with long-lasting results after 30-40 sessions.

Like riding a bike, once your brain learns how to balance on two wheels, you can go years without riding – but your brain remembers how to do it. Neurofeedback works the same way!

What can you change?

Different types of Neurofeedback training in different areas of the brain can help you:

  • Strengthen attention, focus, learning, memory, creativity, and significantly reduce anxiety and fears.
  • Gain greater control of behavior, emotions, and racing thoughts.
  • Brighten and stabilize mood and deal with past traumatic experience(s).
  • Improve sleep, appetite, and other physical functions such as balance.
  • Overcome chronic pain and fatigue conditions, and migraines.
  • Improve your ability to stay in “the zone” and perform at your peak.
  • And for older adults, it minimizes the effects of aging by improving memory, sleep, processing of information, attention, balance, and coordination.

Program for Older Adults

Many seniors worry about mental decline with aging. On average, brain aging does lead to a decline in function: problems with attention and remembering new information, slower thinking, or reduced problem-solving. Although some degree of cognitive decline may be unavoidable, neurofeedback can help you stay sharp as you age.

Using the brain’s amazing ability to reshape itself, which neuroscience calls neuroplasticity, you can get sharp and stay sharp as you age. Neurofeedback can treat depression, anxiety, and other disorders that trouble aging adults. By exercising your brain, it can also improve memory, attention, problem-solving abilities as you age.

At Wisdom of the Aged, we can see you in the office or have a program created and come to your Assisted Living, Nursing Home, Senior Center, or many other locations. The possibilities are endless.
